Terms & Conditions
Effective 11 July 2026
These Terms & Conditions govern access to and use of Lumen. By accessing or using the service, you agree to these terms and enter a binding agreement with Lumen in relation to that access and use.
Eligibility and accounts
You may use Lumen only if you have legal capacity to enter a binding agreement. Where the law in your location requires parental, guardian, or institutional involvement, use of Lumen must occur with that approval and on that basis. You must provide accurate, current, and complete account information, maintain the confidentiality of your login credentials, and remain responsible for activity conducted through your account, except to the extent directly caused by Lumen's failure to meet its own security obligations.
Academic integrity
Lumen is intended to support study, revision, planning, and feedback on your work. You remain responsible for compliance with the academic integrity requirements of your school, examination authority, and any other relevant educational body, including requirements concerning AI-assisted tools, attribution, collaboration, and originality.
Permitted use
Your use of Lumen is limited to lawful, authorised, personal, and educational purposes connected with the service. Prohibited conduct includes interference with the operation, security, or availability of the platform; attempts to obtain unauthorised access; use of automated means that exceed ordinary personal use; and submission of content or material without sufficient rights, permissions, or authority.
User content
You retain ownership of content you submit to Lumen. By submitting content, you grant Lumen and its service providers a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, store, process, reproduce, transmit, display, and otherwise use that content to the extent reasonably necessary to provide, secure, maintain, and improve the service. Processing associated with AI-assisted features is described in the Privacy Notice.
AI-assisted features
AI-assisted features generate outputs through probabilistic systems and may produce incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, or contextually unsuitable material. You are responsible for exercising independent judgment, verifying substantive content, and determining whether any output is appropriate for your academic purpose, curriculum standard, or assessment context.
Plans and billing
Certain features are available only through a paid subscription. By purchasing a plan, you authorise Lumen and its payment provider to charge the fees and applicable taxes presented at checkout for the selected billing interval and to process recurring renewals until cancellation takes effect. Pricing, feature availability, and usage allocations may change from time to time, and Lumen will provide reasonable notice of material changes affecting current subscribers. Upon cancellation, access to paid features continues through the end of the current billing period. Refunds and cancellations are addressed in the Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms and operates alongside the rights that apply under the Australian Consumer Law.
Refunds and cancellations
You may cancel a paid subscription at any time through Settings or the customer billing portal. An ordinary cancellation stops future charges and preserves access to paid features through the end of the current billing period. An automatic refund is available for a recent payment where the request meets the eligibility criteria described in the Refund Policy, and other requests proceed to review by the Lumen team. The Refund Policy sets out the full detail, forms part of these terms, and operates together with the guarantees available under the Australian Consumer Law.
Payment disputes and chargebacks
If a bank, card provider, or payment network notifies Lumen that a subscription payment has been disputed, Lumen may immediately cancel the subscription linked to that payment and return the account to the Free plan. This prevents additional recurring charges while the payment dispute is reviewed. It is an administrative billing safeguard, not a determination that the dispute is valid or invalid and not a penalty for exercising a legal right.
Lumen will not cancel a newer subscription merely because an older payment is disputed. If the dispute closes without the payment being reversed and part of the original paid period remains, Lumen will restore the applicable paid access for the remainder of that period without restarting automatic renewal. If the payment is reversed in the customer's favour, the subscription remains cancelled. A customer may contact billing@lumenib.com at any stage. Lumen does not require a customer to withdraw a dispute, prevent contact with a bank or card provider, or exclude, restrict, or modify rights or remedies under the Australian Consumer Law.
Availability and changes
Lumen may modify, update, suspend, or discontinue features or functionality where reasonably appropriate for security, reliability, legal compliance, product development, or operational improvement. Lumen will use reasonable efforts to maintain service continuity and performance consistent with the nature of an evolving online platform.
Suspension and termination
Lumen may suspend, restrict, or terminate access where reasonably necessary to protect security, respond to misuse, address payment issues, comply with legal obligations, or enforce these terms following a material breach or repeated non-compliance.
Intellectual property
The service, including its software, interface, branding, documentation, and related materials, excluding user-provided content, remains the property of Lumen or its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Your right to use the service is limited to the personal, revocable, non-transferable permission granted by these terms.
Disclaimers and liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Lumen disclaims warranties, representations, and conditions except to the extent they apply as a matter of law and are incapable of restriction or exclusion. Nothing in these terms restricts rights or guarantees available under the Australian Consumer Law. Subject to that law and any other mandatory legal rights, Lumen's liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law, and Lumen is excluded from liability for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive loss, as well as loss of data, opportunity, revenue, profit, or expected academic outcome.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia. You submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Australia in relation to disputes arising from or connected with the service or these terms.
Changes to these terms
Lumen may amend these terms from time to time to reflect operational, legal, commercial, or product changes. Continued access to or use of the service after the effective date of an updated version constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
